Copyediting

Copyediting involves correcting grammar, spelling, punctuation, and capitalization errors, along with addressing problematic syntax. Copyediting also addresses formatting issues—for instance, ensuring uniformity of headers, footnotes, and reference lists. Changes will be made based on a style guide of the client’s choice. A copyedit takes place after the manuscript’s content, organization, structure, and plot are set, but before the book is typeset and sent to a printer for proof or galley copies.

A writer needing assistance with content, organization, structure, plot, or craft issues should pursue a developmental edit rather than a copyedit.

WORK TERMS

I work up to 45 hours per week, typically Monday-Friday, but will work additional days if necessary to meet a project deadline. My preferred method of communication is email, but I also use Skype and telephone to consult with clients as needed.

50% of the estimated project cost is due up front as a booking fee to reserve my time, and the remaining balance is due upon completion of the work.

All invoices are payable within 15 days. I apply interest if payment is not made within 30 days, at an interest rate of 2 percent per month or partial month, including the month following the invoice date. No interest is due if payment is made by the fifteenth day.

Because I book projects in advance and therefore will turn down work if I’ve already allotted time for your project, I charge a cancellation fee of 50% of the project total. (In the case of hourly projects, the cancellation fee is 50% of the rate quote.) Interest rates for late invoices apply as described above.
